It is almost September and Lapis lazuli is one of the four Birthstones for this month. The other three being Sapphire, Iolite and Agate.
This semi-precious stone is my favourites and I think one of the most beautiful stones in the world. It is best described as a gemstone of the kind that might have come straight out of the Arabian Nights: a deep blue with golden inclusions of pyrites which shimmer like little stars.
It was also among the first gemstones to be worn as jewellery and worked on. Just love the jewellery that the masters create out of this piece of stone:
