Essie Heaven

My BFF Eloise D and her hubby arrived yesterday to spend Christmas and New Year on the farm. Lucky me got an early Christmas present and I am in Essie heaven at the moment!

Could not decide which colour was most beautiful......
(Silly I know, but it is Christmas after all!)

Have a fab day!

A 34 year old love affair

I've been in love with an old man,
for 34 years,
he's been there through the sorrow and through the tears,
through the happiness and fears.

I've been in love with and old man,
they call him Santa Claus,
why you ask, just because,
I'm a poet,
and I did not even know it!

I absolutely love and hate this time of year. I love it because it's a time of giving as well as receiving. I hate it, because it brings back memories of loved ones that are not with us anymore. Yes, Christmas is the only time of the year where I can laugh the one moment and cry the next.

On Santa's lap as a 5 year old

That is all for now, because today I am crying for all the Ouma's and Oupa's, all the dogs, the uncles and aunts and friends that are not with us anymore but never forgotten.

Today...

... the farmer went to the dam to go and test his boat. While he was away, his farm pick-up truck, which is a wreck, would not start. Obviously the jumper cables are in the smart Toyota Hilux with the farmer. One of the workers came to fetch me and we had to do a "running start" with the tractor towing the pick-up. I was the lucky person in the pick-up!!!
... marks the start of some serious dieting. The buttons are popping off my pants like bullets!!
...

Enjoy your weekend!

The loud neighbour and the stallion

Our neighbour has a 3-year old stallion that has not been broken in. He is struggling to get the horse to even come to him and every time he goes closer, the stallion turns its rear end and starts "reversing" towards him to kick.

So yesterday we pop in there and he asked if I will give it a try. Of course I said yes, but asked him to first get the horse in the *short crush as there is no way I am going into the camp. Long story short. We get the horse in the short crush and I even manage to get him to eat from a bucket and he sniffs my hand without trying to bite me. That is until our LOUD neighbour (who is standing behind the horse) opens his mouth. Stallion gets the fright of his life, kicks the whole short crush to smithereens, jumps over whats  left of the wooden poles and makes a beeline for the road. They neighbour's children start screaming and  run off in different directions faster than what the horse is going. The stallion, not disturbed by all the chaos around him, runs over the road, clears a gate and disappears into the hills. Wonder if the loud neighbour has managed to find him...

Never a dull moment when you live on a farm.
The farmer and I were in stitches on the way back home.

I wanted to take a pic of the bugger, but obviously it was not possible. Below is a pic of his parents. He looks just like his father, Duiwel, who is a blue roan but his coloring is more that of his mother(the red-brown mare on the right)
Duiwel & Cornet
* A short crush is a strongly built stall or cage for holding cattle, horses, or other livestock safely while they are examined, marked, or given veterinary treatment. Cows may be made to suckle calves in a crush. For the safety of the animal and the people attending it, a close-fitting crush may be used to ensure the animal stands "stock still". The overall purpose of a crush is to hold an animal still to minimise the risk of injury to both the animal and the operator whilst work on the animal is performed.

Christmas List - Number 3

Number 3 needs no introduction. We were peppered with posts and competitions when this fragrance was launched.

I could never understand the big hype about Thierry Mugler’s revolutionary new caviar-infused Womanity perfume. Until Saturday... The farmer and I went pub hopping in Heidelberg[yes, there are two pubs here] and while sitting at the bar in the new pub a lady came up to me and asked what the time was. As she walked away it hit me. This woman smelled like heaven on earth. Here's a bit of the conversation between the farmer and me:

FG: Did you smell that woman!?
F: No, why?
FG: I love her perfume!
F: [silence]
FG: I am going to ask her now what she is wearing.
F: You are harassing the people!
FG: [already on my way to the other side of the bar]

Yep, she was wearing Womanity and I WANT IT!

New kid on the block

22 December 2010 marks the beginning of a week of sleepless nights and pooh all over the house. Yes, our new puppy will be arriving at Cape Town International Airport.

Interesting fact: His father is a pitch black boerboel. And even though our pup is so light, chances are good that some of his pups will be black one day.

So you are asking why we did not buy a black boerboel? Because they are selling at R10 000 a pup!!!

The breeder sent a few pics. Isn't he adorable?

Wait for me!

Phew, I'm hungry! I'm the light one one top of my mother.

Leave me alone you bitch!

All I want is some sleep. My sister is driving me insane.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Today...

... Bliksem the boerboel bit one of the workers. Sorry to say that I do not have sympathy because they scare the dogs with wheelbarrows and farm implements
... flabbergasted at the price of a cover for a Corsa's petrol cap. Last week a petrol caddy broke mine off. Anycase it's flippen R 515!!
... December blues has started. [Not to worry. As a travel agent, I get this every year]
... I need to go and buy a Christmas tree... Should have been up already.
... I can't wait for the new puppy to arrive (See next post for a sneak preview)

And to all the ladies:

Sorry guy readers, I am still waiting for Angelina Jolie to send me her card.

Sexy Beast

I had this whole blog post planned. Wanted to tell you about the hilarious book I am reading now about an ugly man who struggled through life looking like a monster.

Luckily I googled "Stan Cattermore" and read a bit of his blog on which he based his book, Sexy Beast. His second last post on the blog, to my horror, revealed that in fact, Stan Cattermore does not even exist! And here I am feeling so sorry for the man.

His REAL name is Karl Webster and the whole book and blog was a lie. Well sort of. And he's not that ugly at all!

Oh well, I am still finishing the book. It is funny after all.

Tip to self. Do NOT believe everything you read.

Off to Cape Town in the morning and then the Bloggers get together tomorrow night. Hope to see some of you there.

Celebs "die" for World Aids day

These pics look kind of scary, but rightly so...

Via www.fox8.com
Celebrities like Alicia Keys and are doing more than just signing off Twitter for World AIDS Day. They're being photographed in coffins. For the campaign — which also includes Jennifer Hudson, Ryan Seacrest, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Elijah Wood, Serena Williams, Janelle Monae and Keys' husband, Swizz Beatz — celebrities have filmed "last tweet and testament" videos and will appear in ads showing them lying in coffins to represent what the campaign calls their digital deaths.

Dear Government. Rhino's: How can we help!?

Dear Government

This must STOP now!

28 September - A pregnant rhino cow has died under mysterious circumstances on the farm neighbouring that of Dawie Groenewald
29 September - adult female rhino was found dead in KZN
30 September - another two rhinos were discovered by Ezemvelo KZN field rangers
7 October - 20 rhino carcasses were recovered from the Groenewald game farm in Musina on Thursday
17 October - A white rhino has been poached in the Borakalalo National Park near Brits
18 October - The white rhino cow killed by poachers in the Borakalo National Park, near Brits, was pregnant
13 November - Another rhino was shot and killed in a farm in Naboomspruit in Limpopo
15 November - Poachers shot and killed three rhinos and seriously wounded another two in two separate incidents over the weekend - Hartebeesfontein
15 November - Two rhinos were killed and two wounded on the luxury guest farm Shingalana
30 November - Three more rhinos have been poached in KwaZulu-Natal in the last four days

I can add more and more of these reports, but it sickens me.

To date, more than 300 have been poached countrywide since the start of the year. Statistics show that 122 were killed in 2009.

It's getting worse, not better!

Please let us "normal people" know how we can help.

I Love Your Blog Interview

The lovely Bobby tagged me for the "I Love Your Blog" interview. Was so lazy this weekend, I decided to do mine in pictures where possible.

Here goes:
1. Why did you create your blog?
The main reason in the beginning was to be part of the awesome circle of bloggers I follow at the moment. It gets very lonely on the farm and this is my way to be part of a group.
2. What type of blogs do you follow?
Anything goes as long as it's a good read.

3. Favourite make-up brands
Estee Lauder, MAC and Bobbi Brown

4. Favourite clothing brands
I do not have set brands. If I see something I like, I buy it, no matter what the brand. But, must admit that I am a sucker for Jeep T-shirts.
5. Your indispensable make-up product?
MAC lipglass in Oh Baby.

6. Your favourite colour?

7. Your perfume?

The one and only...

8. Your favourite film?
It's probably not my favourite film, but certainly the most watched one. I watched it 22 times.

9. What country would you like to visit and why?

Greece! I've been to Athens and two of the islands, but would love to do a cruise and see the rest of the islands.

10. Write the last question and answer it yourself.

Who let the dogs out?
That would be me!

I'd like to tag these people:

Betty Bake
Ladytimez
Love and Stuff

Today...

... started out with a dog-pooh surprise in the kitchen. Was not impressed
... the same dog vomited all over my bedding. Yay!
... I do not have a clue what to wear to the bloggers get together on the 8th of December [Can I go with jeans please?]
... huge volumes of PMS have devoured me
... I still do not have the foggiest what to buy the farmer for Christmas [help me out here please]
... my one corporate client is driving me insane
... I wrapped one Christmas gift. Six to go. Hate gift wrapping...

How is your day so far?

Christmas List - Number 2

Number 2 on my list needs no introduction.
See below why the much sought after GHD
has been on my list forever.

Have a look at the below picture. Taken in 1993. Bush girl second from the right is FarmGirl. The curls and frustration
are still there, but luckily the hair has thinned out a bit with age. That is why I want a GHD!
Have a fab weekend!
