Was it a UFO?

Been so busy with the new litter, that I completely forgot to mention this!

We had this beautiful wild fig tree next to the house. Two weekends ago, we had the annual town fete, and I left the farm for about two hours. Came back, and the tree had split in half. We still do not know what happened... Sad. Very sad.

Oh rat!

Last night, there's a huge commotion in the outside building. I send the farmer to go investigating, whilst I brush my teeth. After about 5 minutes, I hear him calling at the back door. (I must have guessed by then, but ja...)

Open the door and he throws a HUGE rat at me! Okay, so the mongrel is dead, but my voice is still gone this morning and my throat is still on fire. The commotion was the Foxterriers ripping apart everything thing inside the building to catch this thing.

So this morning, I decide I need to take a photo for the blog. And venture to the garage, where Mr. Rat has been thrown away in the garbage. Also, my mother moaned last night about the lack of posts... So, dear mother of mine, here's a nice picture for you!

The rat was not that big after all, but when it came flying towards me it looked about the size of a kitten! According to the farmer, this is still a baby rat... Blah-blah-blah.

Have a good week. xxx

A Very Peculiar Barman

Still busy being a mother to 13, but made some time for a braai on our neighbours' farm.

Thought I'd share, as coming from the city, I found this very strange. I've seen quite a few antelope and even a leopard stuffed up, but never a baboon...

Mr. Barman, oops, sorry, baboon, still has his manhood in all the right places and Mrs. Neighbour decided that he needs a bit of a cover-up!

Have a good week!

A Quick hi...

These little ones are still keeping me busy. They started eating "porridge" on Monday. Classic!

Have a good one!

No news is not always good news!

I went AWOL again. Sorry about that, but let me update you on the last week...

1. On Saturday our one worker, Basjien's house got busted by the police. Note that his house is on the farm. The police found 41 "stoppe" of dagga aka Cannabis there. Basjien of course, is loaded into the van and off to the cells. Where he only emerged on Monday. According to him, it is for making tea and he does not smoke or sell it. 41!? It's a lot of tea.

A "stop" is the one bottom left. A small package of cannabis wrapped in newspaper.
2. On Sunday morning, Andries, worker number 2 does not pitch for work. His sister who also works here and incidentally is the wife of our tea drinker, advises us that he was stabbed with a knife on Saturday. After asking her if he is okay, she replies that he is fine, she heard him moan in the house next door. I ask if we should not take him to the doctor. Not necessary.

3. So the only one left, is me. On Sunday, I help the farmer load, what still feels like 100 bales of hay. In actual fact is was only 20, but I am still struggling to lift my arms to type this post. I clean horse stables and wash the dog kennels.

4. Monday brings some more bad news. Dumisani, worker number 3, never came back from leave.

The good news is...
Basjien is out on bail and working again. On Tuesday he needs to be back in court.
Andries is back with a huge teat-like manoeuvre on his eye from the knife wound. And promised the farmer that he is done with alcohol.
The farmer found a new man named "Boeta", who looks just like Willem, that was also stabbed to death by his girlfriend on this very farm.
Miem, the wife and sister, showed her worth and got promoted by the farmer.
I can breathe again and get back to my day job, which I enjoy FAR more than farming!

Have a good one!
