Today...

Oh my! Four weeks have flown by. I apologize profusely for being "missing" from the blog world. It is hard and tiring work having puppies. I get up, give food, work, give food, work some more, give food, sleep, wake up, give food. You get the drift!

This was taken last Friday when they had their very first "solid" meal:

Hope you are having a good week!

I am a grandmother!

What a week!

Yesterday morning the farmer woke me at 05h00. Katryn was busy having puppies. The poor dog had 20 in all, but only 9 survived. Mother and puppies are doing well, grandmother is more tired than anything! There are 7 males and 2 females.

Have an awesome weekend!

The Heat is on.

Yes, I have been quiet lately, but I am too tired to do anything else than concentrating on doing my day job without flying my clients to Timbuktu!

The word tired has a new meaning. I have not slept for 3 nights now. The dogs are driving me crazy. We had to put Katryn(on heat) in her kennel to avoid nasty mistakes and the rest of the pack are in a state now. They have been barking for 4 days straight. During the day, through the night. I am going to crack.

And in other news. Vegter and Katryn has tied the knot. Literally. If all goes well we will have puppies in 62 days time. Skollie, the one Foxterrier cannot get to Katryn, and has settled for Lemmer. He does not even like Lemmer! Bliksem has not eaten in 3 days and refuses to sleep inside. He sleeps in the cold in front of Katryn's kennel.

Hope your week is going better than mine!

Proud mommy!

On Saturday we took Vegter, Bella and Kartyn to George for their very first appraisals.

To be allowed to breed, your dogs must be registered at birth and when ready, appraised by a SABT appraiser.

They did so well and I am BEYOND proud!

Vegter scored 83,5%

Bella 82,5%

Katryn 84,6%

Meat Lovers

Fact. The farmer thinks I am crazy.

But, when I tweeted a pic of this yesterday, there where actually fellow crazies out there!

The story: Yesterday the farmer and I had our usual Sunday braai and I decided, as a treat, to buy the dogs some meat too. Just as well we do not have children(yet). They will be spoilt rotten.

What CAN they be waiting for?

Yep, their own braaivleisie
Have a great week!

Dog Juggling

Vegter has been in a bad mood lately. So in order to give Lemmer a chance to play outside without getting his face rearranged, I let Vegter in and Lemmer out. Vegter immediately grabbed one of the toys and he seriously thinks he is a puppy again!

It's MY squeaky toy!

Fast asleep

At least the dogs are still youths!

Youth day was such a lazy and relaxing day. We had perfect weather and the farmer and I mostly spent our day outside with the kids.

Hope you have an awesome weekend!

My they grow up so fast!

Today Lemmer has been with us for 1 week. I cannot believe how he has grown in such a short period!

Ramblings and Lemmer.

Oh man, it has been busy this week. Apologies for the lack of posts...

Last night the farmer and I drove to Albertinia, to meet and fetch our newest edition to the Boerboel family. Meet Lemmer*!

How is your week going?

We have a Paleontologist on the farm!

Look what Vegter found! Very chuffed with himself...

**Paleontology is the study of prehistoric life, including organisms' evolution and interactions with each other and their environments (their paleoecology)

Note: This is a cow skull and NOT a dinosaur's. Don't want the archaeological departments of all SA's Universities descending on the farm!

The kids and another one.

It is nearly impossible to get a photograph of all our dogs in one shot. So when the farmer took them for a swim yesterday, I had to snap this:

In other news:
Last night I went outside to check the rain meter and decided to pop in and see the vegetable garden. The story goes like this:
1. Walk towards the garden and stand a bit to admire the beautiful cabbage 2. See that the dogs are sniffing at something next to the gate 3. Hey Vegter, Bliksem, get away from that frog 4. Walk closer to inspect the frog 5. Fuck, the frog has a tail and is almost 1m long 6. Scream at the dogs to get away 7.Close the gate and scream again. Slang/snake!! By now the farmer is outside and looking for his spade 8. Unfortunately the farmer has to kill it because we are not sure what type it is and are afraid the dogs might get bitten 9. Farmer brings it in the house and it's still alive, opening it's mouth and hissing at us. 10. Take the photo and snake is thrown away

This morning, the farmer wakes me with a cup of coffee as always. We watch morning live as always. Then he asks if he can get a cup of coffee. Walk to the kettle and as always he has spilt sugar, milk and what not. The dishcloth is lying by the kettle so I reach for it to wipe the mess. SCREAMS again. Our friend from last night is tucked under the dishcloth, smiling at me. Farmer thought it was a HUGE joke. NOT!

** I love (and fear) snakes and think that they are one of the most beautiful creatures on earth. Hate killing them, but I would rather have a dead snake than a dead dog.

Enjoy your weekend!

Today...

... has been a long day and it's not even over yet.
... I need to start planning my mother's birthday bash - she turns 60 this year (any ideas?)
... Veldskoen the foxterrier jumped into a smoldering heap of hay. Roasted a bit, but he is okay. Luckily he has been neutered.
... the vegetable garden is coming on very nicely.
... (lol) I overheard our housekeeper calling "Diezel"the boerboel,  "Deksel".
... jumping with joy! Got a group booking of 48 passengers for flights to Cape Town.
... I realised: There is NEVER a dull moment on this farm.

Left row = mealies / Two rows on the right = carrots
Almost weekend!

New kid on the block

22 December 2010 marks the beginning of a week of sleepless nights and pooh all over the house. Yes, our new puppy will be arriving at Cape Town International Airport.

Interesting fact: His father is a pitch black boerboel. And even though our pup is so light, chances are good that some of his pups will be black one day.

So you are asking why we did not buy a black boerboel? Because they are selling at R10 000 a pup!!!

The breeder sent a few pics. Isn't he adorable?

Wait for me!

Phew, I'm hungry! I'm the light one one top of my mother.

Leave me alone you bitch!

All I want is some sleep. My sister is driving me insane.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

This is what happens...

...when you forget your Boerboel in the house.

The farmer is minus his favourite cushion and half of his sheepskin slipper.
