A must read.

" I did not conquer Everest - Everest allowed me to crawl up on one side and stay on the peak for a few minutes"

I have just finished this book and it's one of those that I need to share. It just made me realize again that one can do the "impossible". This book was finished in two days. My legs are still hurting from the climb and the oxygen mask is still on.

Bear Grylls tells the story of how he "conquered" Everest at 23 years old, only months after breaking his back!

Hats off to anybody who even thinks about doing this. I struggle walking from the house to the dam which is about 1km.

- The summit of Mount Everest is 29035ft (8850km) high. Commercial aeroplanes fly at about 30 000ft.
- From altitudes higher than 8,000 m/26246 ft most climbers need bottled oxygen to breathe.

Looks beautiful but definitely not on my bucket list!

Today...

... started with tears but ended in a smile!
... I bought a cow.

Here's the story:

When I met the farmer in 2008 and came to visit on the farm for the first time, I "met" a calf who then only had a number. Number 754. Meaning the 54th calf born in 2007. She was the only one who actually came forward and allowed me to pet her. On my next visit, she was still in the camp next to the house and again, came to me when she saw me. Immediately she had to get a name. She was called Sussa.

As Sussa grew older, the farmer couldn't understand why Sussa has not yet had a calf herself. So a few weeks ago, he examined her and found out that she was a "queen". In English, that means that she has under-developed genitalia, and will never be able to have babies or become a milk cow. (A milk cow must have a calf before they can give milk in a dairy)

Long story short, the farmer decided to sell her, as she is only costing him money. This morning he phoned and asked if he could load her on the truck. (Selling a cow = sending them to the slaughter house) Won't go into what was said in the conversation, but when I walked to the camp at the dairy, Sussa was still there and came running when I called her name.

The farmer did not sell her(tears DO help sometimes!) and I immediately decided to buy her in case he tries to pull a stunt like this again. I am now the proud owner of one queen cow!

News and a winner.

Back from Cape Town, still on leave, but something to share:

... The Neil Diamond concert was out of this world! I sobbed like a baby when he left the stage after the last song.
... Yesterday I managed to whip myself in and on the nose with a leather whip. My nose looks like a fever blister gone wrong! (Don't even ask!)

And last but not least. The farmer drew the winner of the R250 Kalahari.net voucher and the lucky person is Liezel T! Please send me your email address to arrange for delivery.

This is not a toy!

Gotta love you (Sweet Caroline LALALA) and leave you for a week.

Ladies and Gentleman

Finally I can say that one of my dreams are coming true. I can (almost) tick it off my bucket list! On Sunday I am leaving the farm for Cape Town and a date with the one, the only......

....

....

....

....

Yes, you guessed right. It is of course the one and only Neil Diamond.

My mother and I are going to his concert on Monday night. The Wonderbra G-string and 36B cup is packed and ready to throw at Mr Diamond. Just kidding.

And just in case you have no idea who Neil Diamond is (the horror!), I have included one of my favourite songs of ALL TIME!

Click http://youtu.be/thLkUoBT_j0 to listen!(Video)

Any case, also on leave next week, but I will announce the winner of the Kalahari.net voucher as soon as I am back from Cape Town. You still have time to enter!

Have a fabulous weekend!

P.S. For those who are questioning my love for Neil Diamond:
- Toddler: I grew up with his music. In fact, I think it is the very first song I can remember, playing in the background in 1979!
- Teens:Sang his songs whilst on top of my double bed, using a bottle of Body Mist deodorant as a mic. (In 1995 my friend Eloise D joined in.)
- Adult: Still getting on top of tables when I hear his music!

But... Never ever will I sing his music on ANY type of karaoke night!

Today...

... I am so over our bitches being on heat since the 12th of March. First Katryn, now Bella. Bliksem and Vegter are fighting and howling like two wolves! Not getting any sleep. HELP!
... thank goodness, the farmer is in a better mood. He has been moaning and bitching this whole week.
... it's 4 sleeps until I leave for Cape Town. Neil Diamond on Monday night, yeah baby!!
... African routings are giving me a hard time. Hate quoting / booking Lusaka, Ndola, Kinshasa, Brazzaville and the likes.
... can not end soon enough. I am going to crack a Hunters Extreme as soon as the clock says 17h00.

I've been featured on Oh Darling Bride!

You'll probably ask why the feature on a wedding blog? Is she getting married? We have not seen anything about a wedding!

Yes, I am planning on getting married next year some time. If you want to read more about why I have not even started with the planning(apart from drooling over dresses), hop on over to Oh Darling Bride!

 Thank you Monique!

Bietjie humor vir Dinsdag!

Party dinge klink net so lekker in Afrikaans!

Unfortunately there is no way that this joke will sound as funny in English, but here goes:

Broccoli:      I am a broccoli, but I look just like a tree.
Walnut:        I am a walnut, but I look just like a brain.
Mushroom: I am a mushroom and I do not like this game at all!

Giant Pumpkin night

On Friday night Heidelberg had its Giant pumpkin competition. It was a first for us and I really thought our pumpkin was huge. Sadly, not huge enough, but what an awesome evening. Our largest pumpkin weighed in at 89kg and the winner weighed a whopping 283.5kg.

Next year we are going all out. The winner received a R3000 cheque...

Uncle Doors won R500 for the ugliest pumpkin

89kg. Not bad.

The winner.
