Agent de Goede: In a different time...

This may sound very weird, but since I can remember, true crime, secret agents, undercover operations, serial killers, snipers, crime scene investigation, criminal psychology and forensics have been of huge interest to me. Nothing perplexes me more than trying to figure out what makes a serial killer tick. Or why someone can kill without feeling remorse. And even more interesting, the investigations after the murders.

In 1993, I met an undercover policemen and the poor man was bombarded with questions. Of course he was not allowed to tell me of his operations, but he did tell me that at the time he was investigating criminal activities in the Cape Town harbour. What is scary about this, is that a year later, this group found out that he was an "infiltrator" and phoned him one day to say that they know where he lives and that they know his fiance gets home at such and such time... Scary shit. He eventually left the SAPS to open his own business and was killed 6 years ago in what seemed like a cash in transit heist. He was shot in the back. The killers are still roaming the streets...

I seriously considered the Police college, but a lot of people, including my friend, persuaded me not to. Today I am sorry that I did not follow my passion. Would have loved to be called "Agent or Sersant de Goede".

Had to settle for the Crime & Investigation channel on DSTV and books like the ones below:

  2. Wees bly jy het nie gejoin nie, daar is nie 'n toekoms daar nie, en daar is niks glamerous aan sersant De Goede nie. :) been there, done it, got the t shirt, cap, and the scars.

Geniet maar jou programme, baie meer opwindend, en tonne minder stresvol.

    Geniet jou dag Heidi.
    Colin.
