Happy. Shocked. Happy. Sad.

This has been THE MOST bizarre weekend of my life.
My parents and brother arrived on Friday for a weekend visit. HAPPY.
On Saturday, my brother has an accident with my motorcycle. Off to the doctor. Then to the hospital for X-rays. SHOCKED. Luckily nothing is broken and he is sore with a huge concussion, but okay.
Then the Stormers win the Bulls in Pretoria. Elated. HAPPY.
And then just as the end whistle blows, my mom gets a phone call. Her sister has just passed away. SAD. Aunt Freda, you will be sorely missed. You always had a smile ready, your heart always open. But you are free now, you can laugh and breathe and laugh again!

Ystervark!

It's 30 May 2012. Time 03h00. Wake up to the hysterical barking of dogs. The farmer grabs a flashlight a dashes out of the house. I hear him yell, and not sure if we are being attacked, I grab the safe keys, but then decide to rather run outside, before I shoot myself in the foot with a 9mm. (By now I am shaking)

Vegter, the oldest boerboel comes around the corner with probably 10 quills stuck in his leg. The adrenalin starts pumping. Then Bliksem comes running home and I nearly faint. His face is covered in quills! I manage to remove all of them, not sure if the Porcupine(you probably guessed by now) ate the farmer... Unfortunately one of them managed to pierce Bliksem just below his eye. Blood everywhere. Unfortunately the farmer had to kill the "poor" Porcupine, as he can easily kill a dog with those razor sharp quills. According to him, Bliksem stormed the rodent and as soon as he saw Bliksem, turned himself and Bliksem ran smack bam into his backside. Now just hoping Bliksem will not lose his sight in the one eye.

I have never heard of someone that eats porcupine meat, but our farm workers love it! The farmer gave them the porcupine, and tonight they will be feasting... (Eeuk!)

Spotted!!

On my way to town recently, I spotted a Bush buck ewe. And just meters from the farm gate!They are very shy antelope, and I had to grab my phone!

Dear Mom

Where does one begin to thank your rock, your friend and your mentor? There are too many things to say. Too many thank yous and too many I love yous.

I know I gave you a few head aches and shockers through the years. But you kept on loving me, supporting me and for that I am grateful and I love you even more.

 I know I was a miserable bitch who slammed doors and threw tantrums in my teens. Even that did not put you off. You supported me through school and made the tough high school years bearable.

What a weekend and then the pain.

Oh man! Our long weekend started with my brother and his friend arriving for a farm visit. Loved having them here. On Saturday night we decided to take them to the only decent pub in town. And my oh my. We stumbled upon a ladies night. I am still laughing at my brother and the farmer. They were to scared to move!

On Sunday we bid them farewell and note that ALL WAS NORMAL. And that my friends, is why, when I woke up on Monday morning at 04h00, I started saying my prayers as I thought I was busy dying. No jokes. My back started paining with this burning sensation and from there on it got worse. Could not walk. Crawled. Crying. Luckily our MD was in town and he examined me at 07h00 that morning. Turns out I had (or still have) a KIDNEY STONE. Well, hopefully never again. They say the pain is worse than child birth. Now, I don't have any children, but the pain was memorable.
