Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting older men in developed countries and a significant cause of death for elderly men (estimated by some specialists at 3%). Regular rectal exams, as well as measurement of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) are recommended for men, usually ages 40 and up to detect prostate cancer early.Recently my mother and I forced a male , very dear to us, to go for a medical check-up. We suggested he have his blood sugar, blood pressure and everything else tested just in case. And also with that, he HAD to have his prostate examined, because of the above statement. He had no idea what was about to happen. And as you can imagine, he was NOT impressed with us after that very physical rectal examination.
This week, without knowing it, I got my own back. Lemmer(baby Boerboel) has a bit of a swollen-redness-bum-condition-something, and moi has to apply Dermavet antiseptic cream twice a day!!!
But all jokes aside. If you have a male loved one over the age of 40, PLEASE ask them to have their prostates checked. It is critical to detect the cancer at an early stage.

My Dad had this cancer...he caught it very early and after treatment he is now completely clear..
