Bull's Eye!

Over the weekend the farmer took me for some target practicing with my father's .22 rifle. It was a bit scary in the beginning, but as soon as the adrenalin kicked in, I could not stop!

Not bad for a beginner!

Hope you have a lovely week!

Still alive and kicking!

Yes, I have not been here in a while. Apologies.

May was a horror of a month at work, but at least well worth it.

June: Sick dogs. Dogs in heat. Howling dogs. Full moon. I can go on and on!

Hopefully July will be calmer and I will have more time to post!

Enjoy your weekend.

Another wedding!

This past weekend, we attended my cousin's wedding in Prince Albert, Great Karoo. The route there took us through Riversdale, Ladismith, Calitzdorp, Oudtshoorn, de Rust and the Meiringspoort pass. 320 km from home.

Apart from the wedding, there was an Olive Festival as well. What can I say, the town was pumping. And what a lovely town. Going back for sure. We stayed at the De Bergkant Lodge and the wedding was held at the Aviator Estate just outside town. I also had the most divine cheese from Gay's Guernsey.

Home sweet home. Tired, but worth the trip!

Gryshaan

In the 5 years I have lived on the farm, I had to get used to many things.

Just this morning one of the dogs killed a baby dove, just as I was about to rescue it. Yesterday one of the calves died.

Yes, I had to get use to death. Not nice, but reality.

Any case, back to Gryshaan. That is the name I have for an ANCIENT rooster that has been on the farm longer than me. The poor thing is very old and about two weeks ago he just disappeared. I feared the worst. But then, magically, he is behind the house again. Then just as he is back, one of the farmer's red roosters corners him and pecks his eye out. He disappeared again for a few days, but came back again.

Yesterday, I found him in the field next to the house. All 6 the red roosters standing around him. Again, he looked dead. As I walked up with a black refuse back (for the burial), he jumps up and runs like mad. Long story short. They plucked out all his neck hair and he is in a bad state. So I picked him up and made a bed in one of the outside rooms. He looks better today, and eats, which is hopefully a good sign.

Long live Gryshaan!

His new home until he is stronger

Poor thing.

Just had to share this.

Katryn the Boerboel normally can't stand the Foxterrier. Rare moment.

Blessed birthdays

I hate getting older, hence, I hate birthdays. BUT, this last one I loved.

My friend Eloise and her husband came for the weekend, and the spoiling started with massages at the Rain Spa in Swellendam.

On Saturday the farmer drove us to Barrydale and the Warmwaterberg Hot Springs. But first we stopped at Ronnies Sex Shop.

Sadly, Eloise and Francois had to go back home on Sunday.

Yesterday the farmer started all over again. Roses, chocolates and a fancy hair dryer.

So blessed. Thank you, all of you!

Almost forgot about the cake! A delicious red velvet all the way from Cape Town.
